Delhi's Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital and Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital have received the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification from the Union Health Ministry, with LNJP becoming the country's first 2,000-bedded government hospital to achieve the recognition, according to official statements.
Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital (LNJP) secured 95.89 per cent under the NQAS assessment process while Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital achieved 96.72 per cent, and both hospitals were conferred the ''Quality Certified'' recognition under the National Quality Assurance Standards framework, according to a Delhi government press release.
The certification was awarded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under its quality assurance framework for public healthcare institutions.
According to an official statement, LNJP Hospital achieved scores of 99.43 per cent in service provision, 96.11 per cent in patient rights, 97.65 per cent in clinical services, 97.06 per cent in infection control and 95.65 per cent in quality management.
It also secured 99.54 per cent in patient privacy and dignity and recorded a patient satisfaction score of 87.33 per cent.
The statement further said the pharmacy department scored 95.82 per cent, the ICU secured 96.74 per cent and the hemodialysis centre achieved 97.89 per cent.
The Delhi government said the certification was awarded on the basis of performance across multiple healthcare domains, including OPD services, ICU facilities, blood bank, labour room, radiology, laboratories, emergency care and maternal health services.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the recognition reflected the government's efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure quality, patient-centric services in government hospitals.
''Unlike the previous government, we believe in work, not empty promises. For years, Delhi's healthcare system suffered due to a lack of vision, accountability and meaningful reforms,'' Singh said.
He said emphasis was being laid on cleanliness and hygiene under the Kayakalp initiative across Delhi government hospitals and added that 14 MRI machines and over 25 ultrasound machines would be made available in government hospitals in the coming period.
The minister said the expansion of MRI and ultrasound facilities across government hospitals would improve diagnostic capacity and help reduce inconvenience faced by patients.
''Advanced healthcare services are being ensured across Delhi government hospitals, and it remains our commitment that every individual should have easy access to treatment,'' he added.
The LNJP statement said the hospital had over the past several years implemented reforms including infection control practices, scientific sanitisation protocols, biomedical waste management systems and mandatory infection prevention training for healthcare staff.
The hospital also strengthened digital monitoring and feedback systems, grievance redressal mechanisms, drug inventory management, uninterrupted electricity and water supply, patient-centric administrative reforms and standardised treatment protocols, it added.
The statement said the NQAS accreditation is expected to provide an additional financial incentive of over Rs 2 crore annually to the hospital.
Under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, NQAS-certified hospitals are entitled to an additional 15 per cent incentive over standard package rates, it added.
LNJP Medical Director B L Chaudhary congratulated doctors, nurses, faculty members, healthcare workers, administrative personnel, sanitation staff, security staff, PWD personnel and support staff for their contribution towards the achievement.
The government said the certification reflected its commitment towards strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and ensuring quality healthcare services for citizens.
