Historic Visit: Modi Paves New Path in Indo-Norwegian Relations

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic visit to Norway on Monday, engaging in delegation-level discussions with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in over four decades, underscoring the diplomatic importance of this engagement.

The Indian delegation, comprising External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and Secretary (West) Sibi George, met with their Norwegian counterparts, including Health Minister Jan Christian Vestre and Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide. Before the delegation talks, Modi held a bilateral meeting with Støre.

Modi's visit to Norway is part of his larger five-nation tour, having already visited the UAE, the Netherlands, and Sweden. In a unique gesture, Støre welcomed Modi at the airport, emphasizing the visit's significance in enhancing cooperation on trade, green transition, and tackling shared global challenges. Modi will also attend the India-Nordic Summit and meet with King Harald V and Queen Sonja, before concluding his tour in Italy.
