According to a survey accomplished by New London Architecture, 2019 is described as the ‘year of the tall building’ in the capital of United Kingdom.
The findings by New London Architecture show that 541 towers have been awarded planning permission in London, whereas 121 are presently under construction. The survey shows that around 90 percent of tall buildings (over 20 storey) are mainly residential and will create 110,000 homes. 23 of London’s 33 boroughs have tall buildings under construction, with Barnet, Camden and Hounslow joining the list this year, as reported by Global Construction Review.
On the other hand, the survey reflects a dwindle of around 4 percent in the number of applications including a 2 percent fall in the number of starts on site in the previous year. “After six years of undertaking this review, I think we can finally declare 2019 the year of the tall building. Tall buildings are becoming increasingly accepted as a necessary form of urban development, not just in commercial centres like the City or Canary Wharf, but to provide much needed homes right across the capita,” Peter Murray, chairman of the New London Architecture.
