Team by team analysis of Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal (listed in championship order):

MERCEDES (Lewis Hamilton 1, Valtteri Bottas 4)

Hamilton started and finished second but won after a five-second penalty was applied to Vettel's time. It was the Briton's fifth win in seven races and 78th of his career. Hamilton, who has a 29 point lead over Bottas, equalled Michael Schumacher's record of seven wins in Canada. Bottas started sixth and took an extra point for fastest lap. Mercedes have won seven out of seven for the season so far. Hamilton's mechanics had to race to repair a hydraulics problem before the start.

FERRARI (Sebastian Vettel 2, Charles Leclerc 3)

Vettel led a race for the 100th time, a feat previously achieved only by Schumacher and Hamilton. He started on pole position and led to the chequered flag but missed out due to a five second time penalty. Leclerc started third and did a longer opening stint than Vettel.

RED BULL (Max Verstappen 5, Pierre Gasly 8)

Verstappen started ninth and went long on the hard tyre before his pitstop, passing both the Renault drivers on fresh tyres. Gasly struggled with traffic, had to protect his brakes and got stuck behind Stroll.

MCLAREN (Carlos Sainz 11, Lando Norris retired)

Norris was the first retirement with flames flickering from his rear right brake and broken suspension. Sainz made an early unplanned stop when a visor tear-off was stuck in a brake duct, causing overheating. He then did 67 laps on the hard tyres, losing out late on to Stroll and Kvyat.

RENAULT (Daniel Ricciardo 6, Nico Hulkenberg 7)

Renault's first double points haul of the season. Ricciardo started fourth, while Hulkenberg passed Bottas at the start from seventh. The team ordered the pair to hold the position in the closing laps and not jeopardise the points that allowed them to leap from eighth overall to fifth.

RACING POINT (Lance Stroll 9, Sergio Perez 12)

Stroll produced his third ninth place of the season, at his home race, using an older specification engine after problems on Saturday. He went long on the first stint on the hard tyre. Perez spent much of the race stuck in traffic.

TORO ROSSO (Daniil Kvyat 10, Alexander Albon retired)

Albon was squeezed at the start by Giovinazzi and Perez and pitted at the end of lap one, dropping to last. He retired in the pits seven laps from the end. Kvyat passed Sainz in the closing laps to move Toro Rosso a point clear of Haas.

HAAS (Romain Grosjean 14, Kevin Magnussen 17)

No points for Grosjean on his 150th start in Formula One. He lined up 14th but lost four places on lap one. Magnussen started from the pit lane in a rebuilt car after crashing on Saturday. He described his race as 'the worst experience I have ever had in any racing car' but was given short shrift by team boss Guenther Steiner.

ALFA ROMEO (Antonio Giovinazzi 13, Kimi Raikkonen 15)

Raikkonen made an unscheduled stop after a visor strip was caught in a brake duct. Giovinazzi made contact with Albon at the start.

WILLIAMS (George Russell 16, Robert Kubica 18)

Still far from the points, but both drivers improved on their grid positions at least thanks to retirements elsewhere. The car is missing grip and downforce.
