Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday informed the assembly that 48 police custodial death cases have been registered in the state between 2014 and 2023.

This announcement comes as the BJP recently came to power last month, ending the BJD's 24-year rule. Majhi highlighted that 2015 saw the highest number of cases, with eight reported deaths.

The Chief Minister also presented a detailed status of all 48 cases, responding to a question from Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati. Other notable years include 2019 and 2020, each with seven cases, and both 2021 and 2022 with five cases each.
