Cambodia Denounces U.S. Sanctions on Local Tycoon
Cambodia's foreign ministry expressed regret over the U.S. decision to impose sanctions on a local tycoon and senator due to alleged human trafficking. The ministry condemned the sanctions as politically motivated and said they undermine international law and sovereignty principles.
Cambodia's foreign ministry on Friday expressed deep regret over a U.S. decision to sanction a local tycoon and senator over alleged trafficking of people forced to work in scam centres, calling it politically motivated. The U.S. plan of sanctions was first reported by Reuters on Thursday.
The ministry emphasised that the imposition of such unilateral sanctions undermines the respect for international law and basic norms governing interstate relations, in particular the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference," it said in a statement.
