A local court has granted bail to former Deputy Superintendent of Police, D Praneeth Rao, implicated in a phone tapping incident. The First Additional Sessions Court approved Rao's bail on Friday, requiring a personal bond of Rs one lakh along with two sureties of the same amount.
Rao, who worked for the Special Intelligence Bureau in Telangana, allegedly used unauthorized technological methods for phone tapping during the previous BRS government. He now has to report to Panjagutta police station every Monday for eight weeks and surrender his passport as part of the bail conditions.
Rao and three other officials were arrested for tampering with intelligence data and phone conversations. Although he maintains his innocence, citing political motives behind his arrest, the case has seen other accused, including Rao, granted bail. Meanwhile, two other high-profile suspects remain at large, believed to be in the US.
