In a display of orchestrated emergency readiness, the Visakhapatnam district administration executed mock drills simulating air raids and blackouts on Wednesday. Mandated by the Ministry of Home Affairs, these exercises aimed to enhance preparedness for potential crises involving several critical departments.
The district collector, MN Harendihra Prasad, detailed the dual scenarios: an air raid with sirens alerting civilians to seek cover, and a simulated bomb drop involving rapid response from medical, fire, police, and security forces. The drills tested coordination among the Navy, Fire department, Municipal, NTPC, HPCL, and others.
The blackouts spanned specific locations such as Oxygen Towers and Kotha Jalaripeta, where residents were pre-informed. By executing these drills in various districts, including Krishna and Nandyal, the administration underscored a commitment to comprehensive disaster preparedness.
