Facing public outcry, the Chhattisgarh forest department has withdrawn a controversial directive that previously restricted involvement from various sectors in Community Forest Resource Rights (CFRR) activities.
The advisory, initially set by the forest department, was criticized for potentially limiting the rights granted under the Forest Rights Act. This act empowers local gram sabhas to oversee and protect community forest resources.
The forest department clarified that the directive was a temporary measure to align with central policies, but acknowledged the need for clearer guidelines moving forward to prevent management inconsistencies and preserve ecological balance.
