Philippine-Indian Naval Collaboration in South China Sea Marks New Chapter
The Philippine and Indian navies have engaged in a joint exercise in the South China Sea for the first time. This move is part of the Philippines' strategy to counter China's extensive maritime claims and follows similar activities with several allies. The exercise also aligns with President Marcos' visit to India to strengthen maritime cooperation.
In a historic first, the Philippine and Indian navies conducted a joint exercise in the strategic South China Sea, officials announced on Monday. This marks a bold step in Philippines' efforts to counter China's territorial claims in the region.
The naval collaboration unfolded as President Ferdinand Marcos embarked on a state visit to India, aimed at bolstering maritime relations. The exercise was staged amid ongoing maritime cooperative activities that the Philippines has been conducting since late 2023 with various global navies.
Philippine military chief Romeo Brawner highlighted the groundwork laid in March for the joint passage, which took place within the nation's exclusive economic zone. Meanwhile, China maintained its stance on exclusive territorial negotiations, underscoring the complexity of the maritime disputes.
