The National Award-winning short film “Chalo Jeete Hain”, a moving cinematic tribute to Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy of selfless living—“Bas wahi jeete hain, jo doosro ke liye jeete hain” (“Only those are truly successful who live for others”)—is set for a special re-release across India from September 17 to October 2, 2025.
The re-release will bring the film to lakhs of schoolchildren across India through educational screenings and to the wider public in nearly 500 cinema halls, including chains like PVRInox, Cinepolis, Rajhans, and Miraj.
Inspiring Young Minds Through Seva
As part of the re-release, a special initiative titled “Chalo Jeete Hain: Seva Ka Sanman” has been launched. The initiative honours the ‘Silent Heroes’ of schools and society—watchmen, cleaning staff, drivers, peons, and other support staff whose work often goes unnoticed but is essential for the smooth functioning of daily life.
Under this programme, Silent Heroes will be invited to watch the film alongside students, after which they will be felicitated in front of the children. The initiative seeks to instill respect, empathy, and gratitude in young minds, inspiring them to live in service of others rather than for themselves alone.
A Story Rooted in Swami Vivekananda’s Teachings
The film is inspired by a childhood incident from the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who as a young boy—called “Naru” in the film—was deeply influenced by Swami Vivekananda’s philosophy. The story follows Naru’s quest to understand the meaning of living for others and his efforts to make a difference in his small world.
By showcasing this formative experience, the film connects Swami Vivekananda’s timeless teachings with the values of selflessness, empathy, and service, ensuring that these ideas reach a new generation of students and citizens.
Voices from the Makers
Producer Mahaveer Jain called the initiative a movement with a powerful message:
“This will inspire millions of young minds to value and respect every form of work and each individual. It reinforces the timeless values of empathy, selflessness, and duty to the nation—a true tribute to our Prime Minister,” he said.
He further noted that the film aims to ignite a spark among India’s youth, encouraging them to live a purposeful life and contribute positively to society.
Critical Recognition and Legacy
Released in 2018, Chalo Jeete Hain quickly became one of the most viewed short films of the year and went on to win the National Award for Best Non-Feature Film on Family Values.
Directed by Mangesh Hadawale and presented by Aanand L. Rai and Mahaveer Jain, the film received critical acclaim for its simple yet profound storytelling and its ability to resonate across age groups. Its re-release reaffirms its relevance in a rapidly changing society, where the call to live for others remains deeply urgent.
Nationwide Impact and Future Generations
The school screenings form a vital part of the re-release, ensuring that students across India engage with the film’s message in their formative years. By pairing screenings with the Seva Ka Sanman initiative, the campaign creates a powerful experiential learning moment for children—both witnessing selfless service and celebrating those who embody it in their daily lives.
With its wide reach and unique integration of cultural values, Chalo Jeete Hain continues its journey as more than a film: it is now part of a national movement to inspire, educate, and build a generation dedicated to service, empathy, and nation-building.
