Kerala Cabinet Approves Relief Measures and Development Plans

The Kerala Cabinet has approved financial aid for over 1,000 previously excluded Endosulfan victims and decided on housing allocations and financial compensations. Significant investments and project approvals include funding for a visual arts institute and land allocation for defense research in Kerala.

The Kerala Cabinet has taken significant measures by agreeing to provide financial assistance to 1,031 individuals who were originally identified but later omitted from the final list of Endosulfan victims. The exclusion stemmed from an initial medical assessment conducted in 2017 in the Kasaragod district, as reported by the Chief Minister’s office.

Endosulfan, a hazardous pesticide used in cashew plantations, has caused severe health impacts and disabilities for numerous residents in Kasaragod. For years, affected individuals and their families have been advocating for justice and compensation. The Cabinet's approval for their aid will be forwarded to the district collector.

In addition, the Cabinet resolved to provide housing for 50 impoverished families in Alappuzha district as part of the Extreme Poverty Alleviation Scheme and executed the 11th pay revision for several governmental organizations. Furthermore, significant financial allocations were made for the development of the K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual Science and Arts in Kottayam.
