Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday defended his controversial statement urging voters to support his party in exchange for funds, amid growing criticism. He maintained that despite decades of allegations, he owes "no debt to anyone" and expressed respect for the Model Code of Conduct.
Speaking at a rally ahead of December's local body elections, the NCP leader dismissed accusations as media exaggeration, stressing that errors can occur in public service but were unintentional. Pawar pledged developmental support to constituencies voting for his party while clarifying intentions behind his remarks during the Malegaon Nagar Panchayat campaign.
The Deputy CM also called for equal treatment under the law, citing unequal enforcement of regulations. He pointed out possible bias by the Election Commission, referring to alleged activities by non-government groups influencing voters. Pawar advocated for central and state schemes to truly benefit the region, beyond nominal existence.
