The Uttar Pradesh government's food and drugs department intensified its crackdown on pharmaceutical firms allegedly involved in the codeine cough syrup smuggling scandal. On Friday, authorities filed cases against 12 additional companies.
Previous legal actions targeted 26 firms, with suspicions arising about the involvement of others. Inspector Janab Ali indicated that investigations began on November 15, unveiling questionable activities by 12 more firms.
When visited by the department's team, these firms were either shuttered or had other businesses operating at their registered addresses. Subsequently, notices for clarification were issued. Unresponsive firm owners led officials to file cases at Kotwali police station.
