A 42-year-old woman from New York, Stacey Taylor, was charged with participating in an international smuggling plot. The conspiracy involved smuggling individuals, mainly from India, into the U.S. across the Canadian border.
Taylor appeared in court for an arraignment following an indictment by an Albany federal grand jury. She was stopped by U.S. Border Patrol near Churubusco, New York, in January with four foreign nationals in her vehicle, including three Indian and one Canadian national.
Further investigation of her cellphone revealed her involvement in several smuggling ventures. Taylor now faces charges for conspiring to smuggle aliens and for multiple counts of alien smuggling for profit, with the potential for severe penalties if convicted.
