The Maharashtra government is cracking down on fraudulent disability certificates used by 719 government employees to gain undue advantages. Minister Atul Save addressed the legislative assembly, highlighting the need for mandatory certificate verification to ensure the authenticity and integrity of benefits distribution.
Complaints against employees include 78 in Satara, 46 in Pune, and 26 in Latur, with disciplinary action already taken against 21 suspended employees in Pune and two removed in Nandurbar. This follows directives from both the central and state authorities to verify certificates according to Section 11 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Verification processes are underway, set to conclude by January 2026, as departments work to ensure that only eligible individuals with disabilities of 40% or more receive benefits such as job reservations and promotions.
