Chief Justice of India Surya Kant formally welcomed Sri Lankan Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena in a ceremonial event at the Supreme Court on Thursday. Justice Surasena, in India for an official visit, joined a special sitting with the CJI and Justice Joymalya Bagchi.
With a delegation of nine, Justice Surasena acknowledged the deep cultural connections between the two nations and participated in the Supreme Court Bar Association's Constitution Day celebrations. The visiting judges are scheduled for a series of judiciary-related visits, including the Delhi High Court.
The visit underscores over 2,500 years of shared history between India and Sri Lanka, focusing on their common spiritual and cultural ties. Legal dignitaries, including Attorney General R Venkataramani and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, emphasized these connections during the visit.
