Trade Revival: China's Boost in Canola Imports
After Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to Beijing, China has purchased 60,000 tons of Canadian canola, marking the first trade since halting imports in October. The transaction is set to ship after March, with expectations of reduced tariffs to about 15% by March 1.
In a significant development, China has procured a Panamax cargo of approximately 60,000 tons of Canadian canola. This purchase, the first since imports were suspended in October, follows a visit by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to Beijing last week.
According to insiders familiar with the deal, the canola shipment is slated for transportation after March. The move reflects warming trade relations between Canada and China, as highlighted by Carney during his recent trip.
Carney expressed optimism that China will reduce tariffs on Canadian canola seed to a combined rate of approximately 15% by March 1, facilitating smoother trade exchanges in the future.
