The Rajasthan Congress has accused the BJP-led government of introducing a politically driven draft of the Disturbed Areas Bill, 2026, arguing it is unconstitutional and sidetracks from pressing public issues. Allegedly based on a 'Gujarat model,' the Bill aims to restrict community migration.
Rajasthan Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra argued that existing laws suffice for maintaining law and order, while the new Bill violates fundamental rights, particularly the right to equality and property. He cautioned that such legislation could deter investments and disrupt social cohesion.
The Bill, which BJP says will prevent the distress sale of properties, is expected to face strong opposition both inside and outside the Assembly. The proposed law mandates prior permission for property transfers in declared 'disturbed areas' and imposes severe penalties for noncompliance.
