Russia Braces for Post-Treaty Nuclear Landscape

Russia is preparing for a world without nuclear arms control limits as the New START treaty is about to expire. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov warned of potential military compensations if the U.S. enhances missile defense systems in Greenland.

As the expiration of the New START treaty looms, Russia has declared its readiness to face a world absent of nuclear arms control restrictions. The treaty, a pivotal framework for managing nuclear arsenals between the U.S. and Russia, is set to expire imminently.

In a statement made on Tuesday, Sergei Ryabkov, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister and a key figure in arms control negotiations, expressed Russia's position. Ryabkov emphasized the nation's preparedness to navigate the emerging global security environment following the treaty's conclusion.

Ryabkov also issued a cautionary note regarding potential U.S. military movements. Should the United States deploy extensive missile defense systems in Greenland, Russia would be compelled to adopt compensatory measures to maintain its strategic military balance.
