The Ministry of Home Affairs has successfully reduced its vacancies over the past five years, according to data presented to the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Starting at 1,389 vacant positions in 2021, the number decreased to 757 by 2025, marking a noteworthy improvement in staffing levels.

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, shared that the overall vacancy rates declined from 39.9% in 2021 to just 18.7% in 2025. Specifically, vacancies for Group A posts dropped from 136 to just 26 over the same period.

The report highlighted that the ministry does not engage contractual workers. All data provided is maintained by the Department of Personnel and Training, responsible for managing staffing in Central government positions.
