In an alarming discovery in Maharashtra's Nanded district, the small village of Savaleshwar, home to just 1,600 residents, is at the center of a massive registration scandal. Over 15,000 birth and death entries were recorded on the Central Civil Registration System in 2025 under dubious circumstances.
Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya labeled the situation a 'new scam' at a press conference, suggesting possible hacking of the registration portal and highlighting similar issues in locations across Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Somaiya stressed the issuance of certificates, which greatly outmatched local populations, as evidence of fraudulent activity.
In response, a police complaint has been lodged, and authorities are investigating. Nearby districts like Yavatmal and Jalgaon have reported similar cases, raising fears of an extensive criminal network operating across states. The call for a comprehensive probe is gaining momentum, as officials strive to uncover the source of the deceit.
