In a significant legal development, the Allahabad High Court has overturned an earlier ruling compelling a Noida university student to endure a humiliating punishment. This decision was rendered by a division bench consisting of Chief Justice Arun Bhansali and Justice Kshitij Shailendra, who found the directive to be excessively punitive and harmful to the student's future.
The student's punishment, dictated by a single-judge bench, required him to stand at the campus gate for 30 days, holding a placard proclaiming, 'I will never misbehave with any girl.' This came after allegations of misbehavior towards female students from another institution led to his rustication in March 2023. The student challenged these measures in the high court.
Ultimately, the division bench ruled on February 4 that such directives are unjustified and could permanently mar the student's character. The judicial body emphasized the need to protect individuals from punishments that are demeaning and could adversely impact their future prospects.
