The Gujarat government is preparing for a comprehensive Census operation, set to be conducted in two distinct phases, commencing with the House Listing Operation (HLO) from April to September and followed by the Population Enumeration (PE) in February 2027. The announcement, which came through a state release, outlines the detailed schedule and the precursor digital self-enumeration phase.
According to the notification, HLO fieldwork will occur from April 20 to May 19, 2026, preceded by a Self-Enumeration phase from April 5 to April 19, 2026. This step aims to facilitate public participation and boost data accuracy. Residents can submit their information digitally, easing and refining the data collection process.
Trained enumerators will then engage in house-to-house surveys, gathering data on housing conditions, assets, and family facilities. All information will remain confidential, used solely for statistical analysis as per the Census Act 1948. Officials assert the data's critical role in planning, policy formation, and shaping future developmental strategies for Gujarat and India.
