Court Upholds Childcare Funding in Domestic Violence Case

A sessions court has supported a magistrate's decision requiring a man to finance childcare services amidst a domestic violence case. This legal battle began after the man contested an order to provide Rs 12,000 monthly for his twin daughters' daycare or maid costs, which the court deemed appropriate.

In a landmark decision, the sessions court has affirmed a magistrate's ruling that mandates a man to financially support childcare services for his daughters as part of an ongoing domestic violence case.

The court instructed him to pay Rs 12,000 monthly to cover the costs of a full-time maid or daycare for his twin daughters. This order had initially been challenged by the husband, who turned to the additional sessions court at Dindoshi. However, his plea was rejected by Sessions Judge M Mohiuddin M A, who emphasized the broad powers granted by the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act.

The couple, married since 2017, faced turbulence in Abu Dhabi, leading to job losses and the wife's stated mental health struggles. Upon returning to Mumbai, the wife filed for relief and child support, contending she couldn't manage her cabin crew job alongside childcare demands.
