In a fierce critique, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused the Narendra Modi-led government of betraying Indian farmers through the India-US interim trade deal. Gandhi alleges the agreement threatens India's agriculture by increasing dependence on American imports.

Expressing his concerns on social media, he questioned the implications of importing genetically-modified grains and soy oil, and how these could impact domestic agriculture, particularly in states like Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Gandhi fears this might lead to unwanted increases in foreign influence over Indian farming.

The BJP responded robustly, calling Gandhi's allegations misleading. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat dismissed the claims, asserting that the deal protects national interests while accusing Gandhi of engaging in detrimental politics for personal ambition.
