Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reiterated his administration's commitment to regularising the status of daily wage workers, emphasizing the impending release of recommendations from a designated committee, expected soon.
Abdullah made these remarks while opposing a bill introduced by CPI(M) legislator M Y Tarigami in the legislative assembly that sought to formalize the employment of casual workers. While rejecting the bill's admission, Abdullah expressed broad consensus on the need to address the long-standing issue.
The Chief Minister assured that the process of regularising these workers would begin this year in a phased manner, with a roadmap prepared for discussion in the next budget session. Tarigami later withdrew the bill after Abdullah's reassurances.
