Activists have raised serious concerns over the newly passed Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act, 2026. They argue that the act reverses previous provisions that allowed self-identification, replacing them with mandatory medical evaluations.

Rachana Mudraboyina, a transgender activist, emphasized that the community is mobilizing to represent their concerns to the government and seek legal redress. Mudraboyina and other activists have submitted representations to key political figures and are organizing events to showcase the cultural diversity and numerical strength of transgender persons.

Kiran Vissa from the National Alliance of People's Movements criticized the act as regressive, citing the lack of consultation with the community. Activists plan to challenge the act in court and launch a campaign for the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.
