A farmer in Uttar Pradesh's Budaun district was left in disbelief after receiving tax notices demanding Rs 14.66 crore, a sum accumulated by a fraudulent firm allegedly using his identity in Delhi, authorities said.

Bhola Singh, unaware of any such enterprise, found his name linked to "Ram Store" in Delhi's Naraina Industrial Area, which owes Rs 1.02 crore in income tax dues. Additionally, the GST department has demanded Rs 13.63 crore from him. Singh emphasized his lack of any connection to the firm, saying he has never even traveled to Delhi.

Concerned, Singh filed a complaint with the district administration. In response, Budaun District Magistrate Avneesh Rai has formed a special team to delve into the issue. Preliminary inquiries revealed that Singh's Aadhaar and PAN numbers were misused in the alleged tax fraud. Despite struggling to file a report with police authorities, Singh remains hopeful for justice as investigations proceed.
