In a dramatic turn of events at the Madhya Pradesh assembly, Congress legislators walked out during a one-day special session on women's reservation. The walkout followed Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar's refusal to acknowledge their private bill, seeking immediate implementation of 33% reservation for women.
The BJP-led government had organized the special session to deliberate on the critical national issue of women's reservation. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav aimed to move a government resolution on implementing reservation following delimitation. However, Congress leaders demanded immediate discussion and enforcement of the Women's Reservation Act passed by Parliament in 2023.
Amid heated exchanges, the Speaker ruled in favor of the government proposal, leading to the opposition's walkout. Outside the assembly, Congress members voiced their dissent, while a similar reservation bill faced defeat in the Lower House despite substantial support.
