Vadhvan Port: Authorities set aside 2 hours daily to hear grievances of affected landowners

The district administration in Maharashtra's Palghar has dedicated two hours daily to hear the grievances of landowners affected by the land acquisition process for the upcoming Vadhvan Port project. Megha Parmar, District Project Head of the 'war room' in Palghar, said the administration was working continuously to resolve the grievances, verify documentation, and ensure fair disbursement of compensation for those affected by the Vadhvan Port project. In an effort to ensure transparency, the affected landowners can personally meet District Collector Dr Indu Rani Jakhar to highlight their grievances. They can visit the collector's office on all working days between 11 am and 12 PM, and again between 5 pm and 6 pm, Parmar said. The affected parties can discuss unresolved issues, share feedback on their experience with the process, or report any unfair practices or untoward demands, she said. The port is being constructed by Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB). The facility will comprise nine container terminals, each 1,000-metre long, four multipurpose berths, including the coastal berth, four liquid cargo berths, a Ro-Ro berth, and a Coast Guard berth. This mega project involves the reclamation of 1,448 hectare area in the sea and the construction of 10.14 km of offshore breakwater and container/cargo storage areas.
