Attorneys representing Cole Tomas Allen, the man accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump, have filed a request to reassess his detention conditions. Allen has been under strict suicide precautions following his arrest after allegedly attempting to disrupt a security checkpoint at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Since his detainment, Allen has been confined to a 'safe cell' in Washington's jail facilities, restricted from contact with anyone besides his legal team and unable to make phone calls or receive visits. His legal team contends that these heightened precautions amount to punishment, notably as a nurse has recommended their removal.
Notably, Allen has been denied access to resources such as a jail tablet that would allow communication with loved ones. Currently facing charges of attempted assassination and several weapons-related offenses, Allen is yet to enter a plea.
