The Allahabad High Court has initiated a review of Mathura's crowd management strategies amidst heightened concerns during festivals. The probe follows a petition by Swami Shiv Swarupanand Ji Maharaj, advocating for comprehensive crisis management, especially after a 2022 temple stampede that resulted in fatalities and injuries.
The petition challenges the selective execution of demolition orders in the region, alleging discriminatory practices against the petitioner and others. The court emphasized the urgent need for a coherent plan to manage crises and enhance public safety during mass gatherings.
The court has tasked the Mathura district magistrate with verifying the existence of expert systems for crowd management. They stressed the importance of thorough studies and strategies to safeguard historical sites and public welfare. The issue is set for a follow-up hearing on May 19.
