The European Union has enacted sanctions targeting 16 individuals and seven entities in Russia due to their involvement in the systematic unlawful deportation of Ukrainian children. This announcement was made by the EU Council on Monday.
The EU Council estimates that Russia has deported approximately 20,500 Ukrainian children since the onset of the conflict. These activities are considered significant violations of international law and children's fundamental rights as they attempt to erase Ukrainian identity and weaken upcoming generations.
Affected entities include federal institutions linked to Russia's Ministry of Education. Sanctioned individuals and organizations face asset freezes, an EU travel ban, and European citizens and companies are forbidden from financially engaging with them.
