Supreme Court Demands Action on ITAT Vacancies

The Supreme Court has urged the Centre to address vacancies at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal and consider deputations from high courts. The decision follows a PIL highlighting unfilled posts, affecting tribunal efficiency. The Attorney General has been tasked to expedite solutions.

The Supreme Court has taken a significant step, requesting the Centre to promptly fill the numerous vacancies at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT).

During a session led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, the court sought a response from the Centre, while also requesting guidance from Attorney General R Venkataramani.

This move results from a PIL which pointed out that crucial positions, including registrars, have been unoccupied for years, thus hindering the tribunal's performance.
