Draft Framework Aims to Resolve U.S.-Iran Tensions
Iran's state TV revealed an unofficial draft framework for a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. to end their conflict. Key points include restoring the pre-war trade through the Strait of Hormuz and the withdrawal of U.S. forces. Possible binding U.N. resolution could follow a final agreement.
Iran's state television has disclosed the existence of an unofficial draft framework for a memorandum of understanding with the United States aimed at ending ongoing tensions.
According to the proposed draft, Iran plans to reinstate commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz to levels seen prior to recent conflicts. Meanwhile, the United States would withdraw its military forces from the area and lift a naval blockade. Notably, military vessels are excluded from the agreement, and Iran would collaboratively manage ship traffic with Oman.
This framework is part of an ongoing diplomatic effort initiated after recent hostilities between Iran and Israel spiraled, leading to U.S. military involvement in the region. If ratified, the agreement could become a binding U.N. Security Council resolution within 60 days, underscoring a significant diplomatic breakthrough, largely facilitated by Pakistan's mediation.
