A special court in Pune has launched the trial against Bhimrao Kamble, a 65-year-old man, over the alleged sexual assault and murder of a minor girl from Nasrapur. The charges have been outlined, and the trial is set to proceed on a daily basis behind closed doors.

Special Judge S R Salunkhe, acknowledging the substantial prima facie evidence, has mandated an in-camera trial starting Friday. The accused, deemed mentally competent, faces a rigorous examination of the evidence, which includes testimony from 82 witnesses, CCTV footage, and forensic reports.

The incident, which occurred in May, led to widespread protests. According to the prosecution, Kamble allegedly lured the girl with the promise of treats before committing the heinous crimes. Despite challenges from the defense on the sufficiency of the evidence, the court found enough material to proceed.

The prosecution is supported by DNA and forensic findings, along with eyewitness accounts. As charges were read, Kamble pleaded not guilty, but the court has fast-tracked the case, reflecting its seriousness and public impact.
