Arrests Made Following Heated Protest at New Jersey Immigration Facility

In Newark, a protest against the alleged substandard conditions at a detention facility led to a confrontation with federal officers, resulting in six arrests. Demonstrators gathered outside the Delaney Hall detention centre to highlight issues such as inadequate medical attention and poor living conditions for detainees.

Video footage on social media captured scenes of protestors forming barriers with makeshift shields, while others obstructed access to the facility. Amid confrontations, the officers resorted to using pepper spray to manage the crowd and ensure the roadway remained clear.

The protest came on the heels of an oversight visit by Congress members Jerry Nadler, Daniel Goldman, and Adriano Espaillat, who reported dire conditions in the facility. However, the Department of Homeland Security refuted claims of a hunger strike and poor treatment, labeling accusations as politically motivated.
