PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has called upon the Indian central and Tamil Nadu governments to address the escalating fertiliser prices that risk eroding farmers' incomes. He highlighted that rising prices due to global market fluctuations and the West Asian conflict are deepening concerns in the agricultural sector.
Ramadoss stressed the growing threat to farmers' livelihoods, with increasing costs of crucial fertilisers, such as potash and urea, exacerbating existing challenges like climate change, water scarcity, and rising labour expenses. He warned that small-scale farmers may balk at planting crops, potentially leading to decreased food production and threatening India's food security.
He urged the government to introduce more subsidies, ensure affordable fertilisers through cooperatives, and prevent black market activities. Providing special relief schemes for small and marginal farmers could help maintain a robust economy and stable food supply, Ramadoss suggested.
