More than a week into the supposed ceasefire, Lebanon is witnessing a heart-wrenching toll on its youngest residents. An average of 11 children are either killed or wounded daily as Israeli forces continue their offensive in spite of the truce.

The southern suburbs of Beirut saw another tragic Israeli strike on Thursday. The violence, initially intended to be mitigated by an April ceasefire, rages on, leaving perils in its wake. The past week alone has seen 77 children caught in the crossfire, according to UNICEF.

With 55 children killed and 212 injured since the ceasefire started, UNICEF spokesperson Ricardo Pires shared that the figures are "staggering". The ceasefire, brokered by Washington on April 16, was meant to quell the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah.
