China's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, announced on Friday that Canada has the potential to exceed its export targets to China by 2030, predicting a possible 100% increase. This statement emerged during an official meeting with Canada's Foreign Minister, Anita Anand, where both officials focused on the significance of expanding the economic relationship.

Amid ongoing tensions with the United States, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has embarked on a strategic effort to broaden Canada's trade horizons. His recent initiative resulted in a preliminary trade agreement with China, concentrating on reducing tariffs on electric vehicles and canola. Carney's policies aim to lessen Canada's dependency on the U.S., Canada's primary trade partner.

Wang Yi's visit to Canada, marking the first by a Chinese foreign minister in a decade, also addressed security concerns. The trip coincided with recent Canadian military activities near Taiwan, a point of contention for China. Despite diplomatic challenges, Canada continues to navigate its sovereign interests, highlighted by Conservative lawmaker Michael Chong's solidarity visit to Taiwan.
