Jeffrey Donaldson, a prominent Northern Ireland politician, took the stand on Thursday to firmly deny historical sex offence charges. The trial, held at Newry Crown Court, has gripped the region's attention as Donaldson faced accusations of rape, indecent assault, and gross indecency, all of which he refutes.

During the hearing, Donaldson was questioned by his defense barrister, Kieran Vaughan KC, regarding allegations by two complainants, referred to as Complainant A and Complainant B. The offences allegedly occurred over a span from 1985 to 2008, a period when Donaldson was a well-known figure in the British parliament.

Donaldson, clad in a navy suit and red tie, dismissed the claims with incredulity, stating that the abuses never happened. His arrest in March 2024 led to his resignation as leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). The trial is anticipated to continue through much of June.
