There is a growing wave of community endorsement for the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project's pre-feasibility survey in Upper Siang district. On Wednesday, 12 households from Ramsing village submitted their consent, reiterating their support for the earlier signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Yingkiong this March.
The submission of supporting documents was managed by Dungge Apang, handed over to Upper Siang deputy commissioner Talo Jerang at his office, in the company of various administrative officers and local stakeholders. In Ramsing, 31 households have now indicated their support for the project.
Similar enthusiasm is seen in Siang district, where 18 more households from Begging village have signed the MoU, bringing the total to 54. Siang deputy commissioner Tayi Taggu oversaw the process, which reflects active dialogue among stakeholders.
The Siang Upper Multipurpose Project promises significant socio-economic benefits, such as enhancing infrastructure, boosting employment, and fostering economic growth. However, stakeholders call for balanced development and environmental precautions to protect local communities and their heritage.
