Sanjeet Kharel Takes Oath as Pro-Tem Speaker of Sikkim Assembly

Sanjeet Kharel, the two-term SKM MLA of Namthang-Rateypani, took oath as the pro-tem speaker of the Sikkim assembly. Administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, the ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. The first session of the 11th Sikkim assembly and election of the speaker will follow.

Sanjeet Kharel, a two-term SKM MLA from Namthang-Rateypani, assumed the position of the pro-tem speaker of the Sikkim assembly through an oath-taking ceremony on Tuesday.

The oath was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at the Raj Bhavan in a formal function. Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended his congratulations to Kharel on his new appointment.

The 11th Sikkim assembly will commence its first session on Wednesday, during which the pro-tem speaker will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the newly-elected members. The assembly will also conduct the election of the speaker during this session, official sources confirmed.

Additionally, Chief Minister Tamang, who began his second consecutive term on Monday, took his oath of office and secrecy along with eleven other ministers at a ceremony held at Paljor Stadium. The SKM secured an overwhelming victory in the recent assembly polls, winning 31 out of 32 seats concurrently with the Lok Sabha elections.
