Veteran Politician Biswanath Chowdhury Passes Away
Former West Bengal minister Biswanath Chowdhury, aged 82, died at a state-run hospital in Kolkata after battling cancer. A long-time leader of the Revolutionary Socialist Party, he served as the MLA of Balurghat for seven terms and was the minister for jails and social welfare from 1987 to 2011.

Former West Bengal minister Biswanath Chowdhury passed away at a state-run hospital in Kolkata on Saturday morning after a prolonged battle with cancer, officials reported.
Chowdhury, aged 82, was admitted to the SSKM Hospital last week and took his last breath at 6.42 am, according to an official statement.
Chowdhury was a prominent leader of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) and served as the MLA of Balurghat in Dakshin Dinajpur district for seven consecutive terms. He held the position of minister for jails and social welfare from 1987 to 2011. Manoj Bhattacharya, the general secretary of RSP, announced that Chowdhury's mortal remains would be transported to Balurghat for the final rites.
