Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, embroiled in corruption and money laundering cases, has designated cabinet minister Atishi to hoist the national flag on Independence Day in his stead, according to the AAP.
Kejriwal, currently detained in Tihar jail due to allegations related to the Delhi excise policy scam, communicated his wishes via a letter to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena.
Historically, Kejriwal has addressed the crowd at the annual Independence Day function, held at Chhatrasal Stadium.
