In a surprising move, former President Donald Trump posted a manipulated image on Truth Social, falsely claiming pop superstar Taylor Swift endorsed his 2024 presidential bid.

The image, depicting Swift in patriotic attire, bore the caption “Taylor Swift Wants You To Vote For Donald Trump,” to which Trump added, “I accept!” Swift has not publicly endorsed any candidate in the upcoming election but has supported Democrats in the past. Notably, she backed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020 and has criticized Trump.

Spokespeople for both Trump and Swift did not respond to requests for comment. The controversy erupted after AI-generated images and satirical content purportedly showing Swift fans supporting Trump circulated online. This sparked a call from various groups for federal action against the spread of deepfakes and misinformation. Advocacy group Public Citizen emphasized the societal dangers of such misinformation, especially concerning elections.
