Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy has leveled serious allegations against Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, accusing him of misusing his office in relation to the MUDA 'scam'. Kumaraswamy asserted that the steps taken by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot against the alleged misconduct were justified. 'The court's verdict exposes the misuse of office by CM Siddaramaiah in various roles he has held,' Kumaraswamy told ANI.
In a sharp retort, Kumaraswamy referenced senior Congress leaders, saying, 'Siddaramaiah questioned why I, being on bail, should continue. Does that mean Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi should also quit as they are on bail?' Earlier, a Special Court in Bengaluru ordered an investigation by the Karnataka Lokayukta into allegations that the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) illegally allotted 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi.
The Lokayukta's Mysuru district police are tasked with the probe and must submit their report within three months. This development follows the Karnataka High Court vacating an interim stay on the investigation. Advocate Vasant Kumar, representing petitioner Snehamayi Krishna, confirmed that an FIR would be registered as per the order. The High Court had previously granted temporary relief to Siddaramaiah, but the recent dismissal of his petition challenging the Governor's sanction for prosecution marks a significant turn in the case. Justice Nagaprasanna’s judgement upheld the legitimacy of the prosecution's sanction, ruling out any non-application of mind by the Governor.
