Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot has raised serious concerns over the Election Commission of India's (ECI) handling of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, accusing the body of fostering fear and suspicion among voters. Pilot spoke out during a press meet in Jaipur, scrutinizing the hurried timelines and alleged pressure on field staff.
Pilot pointed out that while SIR exercises have been routinely conducted in the past, they have never caused the level of public anxiety seen this year. He highlighted instances, particularly in Bihar, where voter names were allegedly deleted, and underscored reports of severe pressure on officials, leading to tragic outcomes.
Emphasizing the need for an impartial ECI, Pilot urged that the revision of voter lists should be free from political influence. He stated that the Congress is conducting nationwide campaigns to protect vulnerable citizens' voting rights and warned against any politically motivated actions within the Commission.
