The Congress in Kerala remained aloof from a growing controversy on Sunday involving its Palakkad MLA, Rahul Mamkootathil. Facing police action in a rape case, Mamkootathil has been suspended despite his claims of political motivations behind the accusations.
Addressing the issue, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal stated that unlike other parties, the Congress has taken decisive action, with senior leaders clarifying that the party carries no responsibility for an individual's actions under suspension.
A case was registered against Mamkootathil after a woman's allegations led to a special investigation team being formed. Meanwhile, the MLA has sought anticipatory bail, refuting the allegations as politically driven.
